Hello everybody!
*Waves* After a long time editing and putting my thoughts in correct order... It is me bringing along a report from last night's concert. Sorry if it is too long but I wanted to write one as detailed as I could so the memories don't dissapear too fast.
My journey began on Wed 18th when I flew from Spain to the UK. After more than 2 years of waiting I was seeing the Divos live again and on the opening night! Don't ask me how I managed to focus on Uni lessons that day, I have NO clue!
By the time the 21st arrived more and more butterflies were flying freely in my stomach and I had talked with my hostess simmi about which songs they would or wouldn't sing, what they would be wearing, how would the new stage be like... and so on.
So, after days of these deep philosophical questions we drove to Manchester to find their answers. We were meeting with more divas before the concert. All together we shared jokes, drinks and in that wonderful company the hours flew by
At certain hour we walked to the close arena. We had a light dinner at "The View" and chatted a bit more with new friends made there. We got the Tour program too (it is worth buying, imho it is the best one so far... glossy close-up pics
*THUD*)After all that time the only tiny thing left was getting into the venue to see and listen to the guys So each one of us went to their seats and waited until the place was full. Our seats were in second row at the left side of the stage. It was an awesome spot to see the Divos walking past us towards the round platform which was some metres behind us. And also for taking pics, as long as the hand-shaking was under control: we were worried about security taking away the camera being us so close to the stage, but luckily they didn't.
All seats are taken. Everybody waiting. The lights are out. Excited cheering is heard all around. 4 silhouettes walk up on the stage and we hear a deep voice singing “There’s a place for us….”
Il Divo was BACK!
A few memories of that night…
- David hitting that high note at the beginning of the show in "Somewhere". I lack of words in English to explain how impressive it was.
- I was delighted to hear “Passera” live after all this time and extremely happy they kept it because it is my absolute favourite. And Carlos belting it out, awesome as always. But it is also amazing how tender his voice sounded at the end of “La Promesa”
- It does not matter how many times I hear “Regresa a mi”. It is fabulous every single night.
- I didn’t expect they would sing “Angelina” so early in the show but Carlos introduced it after making the “Have you missed me? Have you missed my curl?” joke lol
- Then the first surprise of the night came when Urs introduced Bridge over troubled water” OMG, it was brilliant! It may be an unreleased track but they made it sound as they have sung it since they were put together.
- Another Il Divo classic that never gets old is “Everytime I look At You”. Carlos didn’t wiggle his eyebrows at the “Feels like I can hardly breathe” line but he said it in a very funny way hehe! Oh and there was noOh-oo-oooh bit either, but some people at the front of the stage may have sung it because the guys grinned at each other afterwards.
-
UBER WARNING: Hold onto your chairs REALLY tight when the time for “Hallelujah” comes. Urs’ voice is dangerously heavenly during it
-The big hit of the night (apart from “Caruso” and “Power of Love” and “Va todo al ganador”) was “Adagio”. All of them got loooooong lasting standing ovations.
-I really liked all the suits they have chosen for this tour (specially the “croupier” look on the Swiss man
, and the Diva smidge in me really enjoyed seeing Dave all in black and dancing right in front of me in “La Vida Sin Amor”
)
-No need to say that most of us were shouting in appreciation when they re-appeared to sing “Amazing Grace” and “The impossible dream” (I saw Seb running in front of us to the centre of the crowd in the darkness hehe!)
-Although there was no sitting at the end of the stage or petals falling from the sky they did shake hands with the crowd as they were walking back from the round platform to the stage for the big finale.
Simply outstanding.
And last but not least adding that I had a brilliant time with the fantastic Divas, Cuties, Sirens and Ubers I have known in this forum since I first popped in 2005, and also who I have only chatted for a bit and/or read their awesome fanfics (Thanks to the heavens that the guys didn’t appeared with the clothes we thought eh? LOL!)And a really heartfelt “Gracias” to simmi who has been really patient and kind to this bouncy beach babe during this time. You all ROCK ladies!!!!
Counting down until Birmingham on Tuesday!
